I find increasingly that as each year passes, my birthdays become quieter and more about spending time with close friends and family. This year, my birthday kicked off with a quick visit to the Google office in Singapore and in the evening I chose to spend it with only my immediate family and my boyfriend Andrew over a quiet dinner and a small bouquet of pink roses. Unknown to me, Andrew had secretly planned a surprise weekend away as a birthday gift! This was my very first visit to Bali and we stayed at the exquisite Alila Villas Uluwatu. So splendid was the luxury boutique resort, we didn’t actually venture out to explore the rest of the island. We pretty much spent two and half days swimming, reading our kindles, playing Monopoly Deal, going to the spa, taking 9am yoga classes, recharging and soaking up the spectacular landscape that surrounded us. We were blessed with incredible weather despite it being the wet season and the evenings were ushered in by magnificent golden sunsets which we enjoyed from Alila’s signature sunset cabana that hung off a cliff over the Indian ocean. As February is low season in Bali, the resort was quite empty which meant we had absolute undisturbed peace and at times it felt as if we had the whole resort to ourselves! I could not have asked for a more fabulous way to celebrate my birthday, and I returned from Bali feeling both refreshed and ready to welcome another year armed with all the love, support and encouragement from my friends, family and followers! Thank you also for all the birthday messages and well wishes you all sent me, I read each and every single one of them!
